Hi ladies, this month I am showing you a couple of hand stitching techniques to use on your pages. I am very stitching challenged LOL but these are easy and if you have been reluctant to give it a go, this is the challenge for you :D. No need to fit in with the Stampede theme for this challenge but if you want to -feel free :D

I'll show you a couple of different stitches to try.

First of all you will need:
Hole piercer or needle
Mousepad
Ruler
Embroidery thread
Needle
Image

Place your cardstock on reverse of mousepad, take your ruler and pierce the card at regular intervals. For most stitches you will need even number of holes.

Image

Cross stitch
Poke holes at regular intervals (even numbers)
Then move the ruler up about 1cm (bigger gap, bigger stitches)
Thread the needle (I don't do knots)and secure the end to the back of the card with double sided tape.
Push through from back of card to front, first hole on the bottom row
Then cross over to the top second hole (diagonal)

Image

Push from back to front - top left to bottom right

Image

continue until all your crosses are done :D

Running stitch
Poke even number of holes even distance apart
Start at back of card and push through the first hole and then back down the second

Image

Push back up the 3rd and down the 4th
Repeat

Image

Back stitch
Start off the same as for running stitch so back to front from 1st hole down 2nd
Then back to front up 3rd hole and back down the 2nd

Image

Repeat by going up the next hole and back the previous one

Image

here is my finished sample of the 3 stitches plus a random one. Just poke holes of differing lengths and sew as normal.:

Here is my layout showing two sizes of "X's" and a bit of stitching around one of the arrows. I've used the gorgeous Daisy Bucket Designs My Little Monsters papers :D

and the back

So I hope you give it a go. I know there are a lot of fab stitchers out there just waiting to get out LOL.

"Load your layouts into the gallery by midnight Thursday 3rd December to be in the running for a $10 store voucher. If you have used Daisy Bucket products and your entry is chosen as the winner- you will receive an extra prize with your next order!

"In order to be eligible for a prize your entry must be created specifically for this Scrap Therapy Challenge, and may not be used for any other challenges on Scrap Therapy or any other site until after the winner has been announced"

Hi there,

just wondering if we need to use all four stitching techniques to be eligible to win?

SO glad these challenges are up, I can keep my mojo flow going! :)

Not at all. Your layout just needs to have some handstitching - so any stitch you like and it can only be one type.

Glad you are enjoying the challenges :D

Great tutorial Allie! I love hand stitching but don't do it often enough. Should get out my needle and threads more often.
